Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

To ensure the health and safety of the AMCA staff — our headquarters colleagues will be working remotely through at least March 27. As always, they will be available through email and phone.

With the physical setup of the AMCA laboratory lending itself to "social distancing," members of the AMCA laboratory team have requested that they be permitted to maintain operations. AMCA senior leadership has decided to honor this request and will continually monitor the situation, ensuring the team's safety is maintained.

Senior staff is reviewing these decisions regularly and we will alert you should anything change.

Sand louvers protect air systems from wind-driven sand, which can enter mechanical rooms to foul equipment and clog air filters ahead of their normal service life. Certifying sand louvers enables the comparison of manufacturers' ratings for sand rejection based on test data in accordance with ANSI/AMCA Standard 500-L (Rev. 2015), Laboratory Methods of Testing Louvers for Rating.

How to Specify AMCA-Certified Sand Louvers

Because the number of certified sand louver models has reached critical mass, the following language can be added to office, project, and guideline specifications to require AMCA certification:

The sand louver shall be tested in accordance with AMCA Standard 500-L and licensed to bear the AMCA Certified Ratings Program seal for air performance and wind-driven sand in accordance with AMCA Publication 511.
